One of the most important tips for successful baby potty training is to maintain a good idea. It seems simple, but the realities that can be presented in baby potty training can be a little upsetting for some adults. The recommendation is that neither get upset or attempt to discipline the baby during baby potty training. It is not helpful, though in the immediate it may seem to provide results. Even jobs like cleaning up messes should be done by you. Attempt to recognize that potty on the bathroom floor is a lot closer to the goal than potty in the living room.
Make an appropriate toilet available in the bathroom for baby. It is best if the toilet is placed as a permanent fixture. This provides a greater sense of independence. Some babies actually begin to sit on the potty themselves even when they are not going potty. Some parents adopt a routine of allowing baby to sit on their potty while the adult is using the potty. These may be effective in some instances. Similarly practice runs are sometimes helpful. Simply at a set time some days take baby to the bathroom and allow them to pull down their pants and sit on the potty. After they are done sitting they can pull up their pants. Celebration is a good follow-up. Reward can be a prime motivator in baby potty training.
Some recommend not asking if baby needs to go potty. The response is usually 'no' and the process may inhibit their motivation to determine and take action for themselves. Simply perform the practice runs and make the potty available.
It is also recommended that if the baby resists not to pressure them. If a baby is not ready for baby potty training there is usually little benefit in forcing it. Simply make the potty available when you begin to notice the signs of readiness. Baby potty training is often more of a facilitation than a training. When the baby is cooperative begin practice trips to the potty. As the baby approaches the age of three or development seems to merit make the trips more frequent. The idea of baby potty training is, after all, that baby will begin to use the potty when they need to, not that baby will potty on command.
In some cases baby potty training may not be effective. In these cases you may need to consult a professional. There may be problems that are preventing typical development in the baby. With help those problems may be resolved quickly.
